This month, meet Dawn Mancuso, Board of Directors Member.
I
think I have been an animal-lover since the day I was born!
It doesn't matter much what kind of animal, either. I grew
up with dogs, cats, hamsters and reptiles, and rode horses
as a teenager. Today, I have limited my pet companions to
cats because of the demands of my professional life, but hope
to have more variety at some point in the future. But for
now, Choux-Choux, my 17-year old kitty, is the best company!
With
over 20 years of experience in non-profit management, I hope
I can bring a unique base of knowledge and skills to the MetroPets
board. I am enjoying leading the organization through its
first strategic planning process.
My
current full-time job is Executive Director & CEO of the
Association of Air Medical
Services (AAMS), an international association of air ambulance
operators from across the globe. I also serve as the director
for the AAMS Foundation and the National EMS Pilots Association.
My undergraduate degree is in international relations from
Georgetown University, and I have a Masters in Association
Management from George Washington University. I received my
CAE (Certified Association Executive) designation from the
American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) in 1992,
and was re-certified in 1995, 1998, and 2001. I have been
an active member of ASAE and GWSAE (the Greater Washington
Society of Association Executives) for many years, and was
honored by receiving GWSAE's Monument Award and ASAE's Diamond
Award of Excellence. In March of 2001, I was named a Fellow
of the American Society of Association Executives.
Except
for a 3 year stint in southern California, I have lived in
the Greater Washington, D.C. area since 1977.
