I
am an animal lover from way back. Growing up, we had a cat,
a rabbit, a bird, a turtle, dogs, and all kinds of fish. I
would also ride horses every chance I got. My husband Tom
and I currently have three cats and two Samoyeds we adopted
from Midatlantic Samoyed Rescue, and we are the temporary
parents of an adorable four month old Samoyed puppy that Rescue
is seeking a home for. I also keep a supply of bird seed and
squirrel food on hand to feed the wonderful assortment of
wild creatures that visit our yard.

My
tenure with MetroPets began after I heard Anne on WAMU's Heart
to Heart volunteer drive talking about MetroPets and their
need for a volunteer coordinator. Anne and I got together
to talk about the group and some of the things that she needed
a volunteer coordinator to do. Ever since, I have been learning
more about the group, meeting volunteers, and sending weekly
e-mails soliciting volunteers for a variety of current needs.

Walking

My
first "big" project was to organize the Volunteer
Orientation at the end of March. I was pleased that so many
people braved the snow to come out, and it was great to meet
the volunteers face-to-face. I am currently working on ways
to make the Volunteer Corner feature of the web site more
interactive.
In
addition to volunteering with MetroPets and Samoyed Rescue,
I also volunteer with the Equine Rescue League in Leesburg.
Professionally, I am a banking attorney but would like to
figure out how I can have a career that also lets me work
with animals.
